- b. 1926, BonnSociologistLinz Storch de Gracia moved to Madrid in 1932, and studied Economic and Political Sciences and Law, followed by postgraduate work in Columbia University, New York. His doctoral thesis was entitled Las bases sociales de los partidos políticos en la República Federal alemana (The Social Bases of Political Parties in the Federal German Republic) (1958). He carried out his first empirical research into Spanish business between 1958 and 1961, subsequently in collaboration with his pupil Amando de Miguel. He was appointed professor in Yale in 1969. His work has concentrated on the social, political and economic conditions of Spain, and on contemporary political movements, including a comparative study of the transition to democracy in southern and eastern Europe and in Latin America.ALICIA ALTED
